I was in India during my winter vacation when I got together with an old family-friend, Ruhi. Because I was so excited to see her, I decided to surprise her at her home. But I think I was more surprised when I saw her than when she saw me. With a diamond ring shining brightly on her left hand, Ruhi exclaimed she was getting married the following month -- at 21, she is only two weeks younger than I am.

I remember as if it were yesterday when Facebook first launched its "Like" button, complete with a thumbs-up icon. All of a sudden, I found myself Liking countless Facebook status updates, wall posts, photo comments -- you name it and I will probably like it. For some reason, the Like button and I just clicked -- no pun intended. I can no longer remember the days when Liking something was not an option.

As a senior, being in a lower division communications course is something of an embarrassment, but it has got me thinking a fair bit about something that is important to all of us: technology. We all know and recognize that it is more or less inescapable. You could put away your computer and phone and Internet forever, but then you would be separating yourself from the world in dangerous ways.

On Jan. 11, 2010 the much anticipated and discussed federal court challenge of Proposition 8, California's ban on same sex marriage, began in a courtroom in San Francisco. The main litigators for the opposition of Prop 8 are Theodore B. Olson and David Boies, who represented Bush and Gore respectively in the 2000 Supreme Court case that decided the presidency. These two ideological opposites are now uniting to bring the hopes and prayers for equality of gays everywhere to fruition.
